Briggers Stay Unbeaten at Home

22nd April, 2013

Worsbrough Bridge Athletic are celebrating staying unbeaten at home all season, one of only two teams to achieve that feat in the Baris NCEL in this campaign.

They completed their home fixtures on Thursday evening with a 2-2 draw against Dinnington Town to keep their record intact.

A look back through the Briggers' club records, secretary Charlie Wyatt said: "I can confirmed that it is an achievement that has never before been done at Park Road in their history in the Northern Counties East Football League.

"This is a massive achievement for manager Chris Hilton and his staff and all the playing squad down at Park Road."

The only other side not to have tasted defeat at home this season in the NCEL are Premier Division champions Scarborough Athletic.

The Briggers' historic run began with a 4-0 win over Eccleshill United on 11th September but there have also been some very impressive results along the way, beating Appleby Frodingham 7-2 on 30th October as well as a 5-1 win over Grimsby Borough on 5th January and a 4-0 victory over Hemsworth Miners Welfare on 2nd March.

The last time Worsbrough lost at home in the league was against Eccleshill United last April.

The club's board, led by chairman John Cooper, issued a statement saying: "In recent times this is the best squad of players - led, trained and coached by Chris Hilton, Dave Mace and physio Shaun Handisides - that we have seen at Park Road and we are delighted to congratulate them all on this wonderful achievement."

Manager Chris Hilton said: "I can't thank the squad of players that I have had at my disposal enough this season for their professionalism on and off the pitch, their hard work and their commitment to buy into the way we want football to be played here at Park Road.

"I would also like to say a big thank you to Mark Joyce, his staff and the second team and under 19s squad that have always been ready and willing to step up and play at first team level.

"Mark has also stepped up and helped me when needed which shows again the way the club as a whole has progressed.

"Finally, a thanks to the board and all the volunteers for their invaluable help on match days."
