Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2018/19 #46

24th February, 2019

A second hat-trick in three Toolstation NCEL Premier Division matches from Nathan Keightley helped Penistone Church to a 4-1 home win over Goole AFC on Saturday that keeps them three points clear at the top of the table.

Keightley took his league tally to fifteen for the season by opening the scoring in the 40th minute from the penalty spot before striking twice in the second period whilst Andrew Ring also got on the scoresheet.

Carl Stewart claimed a consolation for the Vikings who stay a point above the relegation zone on an afternoon where there were defeats for all six of the bottom seven who played.

Worksop Town remain on Penistone's coattails as they too notched up a 4-1 victory on their own patch, comfortably dispatching visitors Knaresborough Town.

First half strikes from Matthew Sykes and Steven McDonnell were added to after the interval by Craig Mitchell and substitute Lynton Karkach before an injury-time goal from Jack Carr for Knaresborough who drop to seventh.

Sam Jones' penalty with twelve minutes remaining was enough for Hemsworth Miners Welfare whose 1-0 victory at Thackley sees them leapfrog Yorkshire Amateur, who were without a game, into third.

Bridlington Town stay eight points off the summit in fifth after their 2-0 home win over Handsworth Parramore, Andrew Norfolk and Mark Hutchinson sealing the encounter for the Seasiders in the last quarter of the match.

Maltby Main climb above Knaresborough into sixth as goals from Aaron Moxam, Steven Hopewell and Jordan Turner ensured a 3-0 win on their travels at Garforth Town.

Joe Cheeseman struck eight minutes from time as Staveley Miners Welfare's single-goal victory at Liversedge puts them above Handsworth into eighth and the top half is still completed with Bottesford Town in tenth despite a 4-1 loss at Eccleshill United.

Eccleshill move to within a point of their visitors as a Jake Thompson brace, following goals from Charlie Flaherty and Andrew Cooper, ensured a straightforward victory at the Mitton Group Stadium.

Hall Road Rangers remain in the relegation zone after a 2-0 loss at Athersley Recreation, Declan Dawson and Liam O'Brien doing the damage for the home side who tightened their grip on thirteenth spot.

And, Albion Sports missed out on a chance to move out of the bottom four after taking the lead at Barton Town through Sam Denton but the Swans stormed to a 5-1 win that included two goals from Thomas Waudby.

Campion returned to the top of Division One in a match that followed a similar pattern at home to Selby Town with the visitors breaking the deadlock through Charlie Clamp in the second minute.

But, after that, the hosts dominated with Marcus Day, Aiden Day and Ben Bodle scoring in three first half minutes to give them a 3-1 advantage by the interval before a Ryan Woodhead own goal and an injury time strike from Leon Hurles-Brook completed a 5-1 win.

Grimsby Borough drop to second after a 4-1 home defeat to East Yorkshire Carnegie, a victory for the visitors that will be a major boost in their efforts to avoid relegation.

Ryan Williams converted a couple of penalties to give Carnegie the perfect start and Daniel Walker grabbed a third before Marc Cooper threatened a comeback with a goal for the hosts but Josh Walker soon restored the visitors' three-goal lead.

Nostell Miners Welfare keep up the pressure in the third with a 2-1 win over AFC Emley at Crofton Community Centre on Friday night, Kane Reece netting the winner on 75 minutes after Daniel Naidole had cancelled out their opener from Andrew Horbury.

Winterton Rangers and Hallam lost a little ground in fourth and fifth, respectively, as they both drew with Rangers requiring a late comeback to take a point at home to seventh-placed Dronfield Town.

Christian Savage and Stuart Hill had given the away side a two-goal cushion by the half-hour mark but Luke Anderson on 79 and then Kieran Wressell five minutes later made sure the match ended tied at 2-2.

Hallam, meanwhile, drew 0-0 at Rossington Main who ended the game with nine men but move up a place to thirteenth after claiming a point.

Parkgate and Swallownest were both winners to strengthen their positions in the top half of the table with Parkgate staying ninth after a 5-0 home victory over Skegness Town.

Matthew Crookes struck twice for the Steelmen who also celebrated goals from Brandon Bagley, Simon Harrison and Alex Rippon whilst a couple of penalties from Oliver Grady secured a 2-1 win at Glasshoughton Welfare for Swallownest.

There was a goal apiece in Armthorpe Welfare's home clash with Ollerton Town, Gavin King putting the visitors ahead before parity was restored by Joshua Dodd.

And, basement side FC Bolsover won the battle of the bottom two as Jack Warwick got both of their goals in a 2-1 win at Harworth Colliery with Matthew Thompson's strike for the hosts between his double.
