A 3-0 home victory over Barton Town kept Yorkshire Amateur at the Premier Division summit on another busy Saturday of Toolstation NCEL football. But, the match was overshadowed by a serious injury to Swans striker Daniel Chambers that saw the game stopped for half-an-hour in the first period whilst he was treated by paramedics and then taken to hospital - all at the NCEL wish him all the best in his recovery.
Devonte Newman-Morton had given the Ammers a fourteenth-minute lead and the hosts had to wait until deep into the second half to secure the victory, Ashley Flynn adding their second before a Gareth Barlow own goal put the result beyond doubt.
The game of the day came at the newly-named Distant Future Stadium where
Hemsworth Miners Welfare, who began the day in third spot, hosted second-placed
Penistone Church and the match did not disappoint.
The home side were 2-0 up by the interval with Sam Jones netting in the opening minute and Nash Connolly doubling their advantage just before half-time but an Edward Cass own goal and an Andrew Ring strike restored parity for the visitors by the midway point of the second period.
And, as the game ented the third minute of stoppage time, Brett Lovell grabbed a dramatic winner for Penistone as a 3-2 scoreline kept them within a point of the top of the table.
Hemsworth drop to fourth, overtaken by
Bridlington Town who are quietly building up a title charge of their own as a 4-1 win at struggling
Hall Road Rangers means the Seasiders are now just seven points away from the Ammers with four games in hand.
It was 1-1 at half-time with goals at each end of the period, Matthew Broadley putting Bridlington ahead before Reagan Waud's penalty levelled matters but the second half belonged to the visitors with goals from Fraser Papprill, Jake Day - another spot kick - and Andrew Norfolk.
Worksop Town were also 4-1 winners, their victory over
Athersley Recreation at the King of Soho Stadium moving them up into fifth over
Knaresborough Town whose home game with
Eccleshill United was called off due to a frozen pitch.
On a day of many goals in the opening minute of matches, Craig Mitchell put Worksop ahead and they raced into a 3-0 lead with Steven McDonell's strike and a Kyle Jordan penalty quickly following.
Matthew Sykes added their fourth on 38 and, with the damage done, the Rec pulled one back early in the second period through Kieran Scargill but the points were always going to the Tigers.
A hat-trick from Jordan Turner helped
Maltby Main to a 4-2 home win over
Liversedge that keeps them in seventh spot ahead of
Bottesford Town who drew 1-1 at bottom side
Goole AFC, Daniel Buttle putting the hosts ahead on twenty minutes but Henry Cook ensured it was a point apiece.
The relegation battle increasingly looks like it will involve three teams with Goole two points away from Hall Road Rangers who sit just outside the drop zone, both sides sandwiching
Harrogate Railway Athletic who were beaten 2-1 at home by
Handsworth Parramore.
Sam Barker had given the Rail the lead towards the start of the second half but Andrew Sunley's own goal and Jed Phillips' strike, a quickfire double around the hour mark, gave the away side the victory that sees them rise to ninth.
Elsewhere,
Staveley Miners Welfare cantered to a 4-1 win at
Albion Sports with goals for Jahmal Riley, Matthew Parkin, Michael Burke and Sam Finlaw whilst it was a 1-1 draw for
Garforth Town at home to
Thackley.
In Division One, it was honours even in the match of the day with leaders
Campion drawing 2-2 at title rivals
Nostell Miners Welfare.
Alex Cusack gave the away side a 32nd minute lead but that was quickly cancelled out by Brad Kilburn and then, just after the hour, Kane Reece put Nostell in front only to see their advantage disappear almost immediately through a Leon Hurles-Brook leveller.
Grimsby Borough are up into second and are three points away from Campion having come from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at
Parkgate, Joshua Venney, Daniel Trott and Caine Winfarrah scoring in the second period after Owen Fieldsend and Reece Hands had given the hosts the perfect start.
Borough and Nostell move above
Winterton Rangers who drop to fourth after a 1-0 loss at home to
Armthorpe Welfare, Liam Radford's penalty separating the sides and giving Welfare a massive three points in their attempts to avoid the drop.
Armthorpe are now three points clear of
Harworth Colliery who were without a game whilst the other side in the bottom two,
FC Bolsover, continued their excellent rise in form with a 2-0 victory at neighbours
Ollerton Town.
Liam Flint and Jack Warwick netted to stretch their unbeaten run to six games and, although they are ten points away from safety, Bolsover's recent results suggest that any talk of them finishing in the bottom two is premature.
The match at the Fastframe drew the biggest crowd of the day in Division One - 164 watched the fixture - after Ollerton had announced that all of the gate money would be going towards a defibrillator for a local school, with ?870 raised for St Joseph's Academy in Boughton.
The game between sixth-placed
Hallam and fifth-placed
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic was called off due to snow at Sandygate but the chasing pack could not take advantage with
Selby Town and
Dronfield Town both losing.
Liam Flanagan gave Selby an early lead at
Shirebrook Town but a Ben Charlesworth brace added to by a 78th minute goal from Lewis Macaskill gave the Langwith Road hosts a 3-1 victory in their first match under new manager Gary Bryant.
Meanwhile, Dronfield went down 2-1 to visitors
Swallownest, Alex Lill and Oliver Grady's second half goals turning the game around in the away side's favour after Michael Fereday's opener.
AFC Emley were 3-0 home winners over
Skegness Town, a victory that sees the Pewits go up into fifteenth spot, whilst an 83rd minute equaliser from Jordan Buckham rescued a point for
Rossington Main in a 1-1 home draw with
Glasshoughton Welfare.
