Baris NCEL Match Review #70
26th April, 2013
Albion Sports have moved four points clear at the top of the Baris NCEL Division One table after a comfortable win on their travels in midweek.
They beat hosts Askern Villa 4-0 on Monday night with Malachi Farquharson, Daniel Facey and Kayden Jackson all netting in the opening half-hour before James Stansfield added a fourth with fourteen minutes remaining.
Sports now know a victory at Bottesford Town will see them lift the trophy on Saturday, regardless of results elsewhere, but they can still be champions if they fail to win and Athersley Recreation's result at home to Pontefract Collieries goes their way.
Villa, meanwhile, will now finish in the relegation zone after their second midweek game, a 4-2 loss on Wednesday at home to the side just outside the bottom two, Appleby Frodingham, means they are ten points away from safety with three matches to play.
Cleethorpes Town kept their promotion hopes alive with a single-goal victory over visitors Worsbrough Bridge Athletic on Wednesday, Luke Mascall with the strike in the ninth minute.
But, they have to win their last game at Clipstone Welfare on Saturday and Athersley would have to lose both their final matches in order for Cleethorpes to finish second.
Elsewhere, in Division One, Clipstone Welfare were 2-1 winners at Bottesford Town in Monday night's other game whilst Tuesday saw Pontefract Collieries climb into the top five with a 2-1 home victory over Eccleshill United and Selby Town beat Dinnington Town, 1-0, at the Rigid Group Stadium.
Two goals from Mark La Rocca saw Bottesford win their second midweek match, 5-1, at home to Louth Town whilst, on Thursday, Hallam played out a 1-1 draw with Dinnington at Sandygate.
In the Premier Division, Arnold Town are out of the bottom two after a 3-2 victory over Parkgate at Eagle Valley.
They came from behind after Sam Smith had given the away side a sixth minute lead and they were 3-1 up by the interval with goals from Craig Meakin, Robert Austin and Liam Corrigan.
Tom Roebuck pulled one back for Parkgate to make it an edgy affair but the hosts kept their lead as their recent surge of good form continues.
Hall Road Rangers are the new basement side after they were beaten 4-1 at home by Thackley on Wednesday and their match on Thursday against Worksop Parramore at the John Moore Security Stadium did not take place and the reasons surrounding that postponement are currently under investigation.
Nash Connolly struck twice to earn Nostell Miners Welfare a 2-1 home victory over Parramore on Tuesday and, on Wednesday, it was 2-2 between Barton Town Old Boys and Retford United whilst Heanor Town were 3-0 winners at home to Long Eaton United.
