Baris NCEL 2012/13 Match Review #30
15th November, 2012
The Second Round of the Baris NCEL League Cup got into full swing in midweek with ten matches played.
One game went all the way to a penalty shoot-out as Glasshoughton Welfare's home clash with Nostell Miners Welfare ended 2-2 after extra-time.
The match looked to be wrapped up in ninety minutes as Nostell went into stoppage time 2-1 up, thanks to goals from Graham Marchant and Mitchell Pearson but a Toby Ruher own goal levelled the scores in dramatic fashion to force an extra half-hour.
And, it was Nostell who triumphed on spot kicks, winning 4-3.
There were away wins for Tadcaster Albion, Armthorpe Welfare, Scarborough Athletic, Louth Town and Worksop Parramore.
Steven Jeff and Nick Thompson struck in the second half to send Tadcaster through, 2-0 at Brighouse Town, and Scarborough won by the same scoreline at Liversedge, courtesy of goals from Oliver Banks and Ryan Blott.
Armthorpe struck twice in the last two minutes through Richard Smith and a Reece Richard penalty to dispatch hosts Grimsby Borough, 3-1, and Louth beat Worsbrough Bridge Athletic 3-0, thanks to strikes from Jack Wightwick, Paul Goodhand and Chris Ella.
Lee Holmes' goal on the hour saw Parramore progress, 1-0, at Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
There were 5-1 home victories for Parkgate and Thackley against Appleby Frodingham and Pickering Town, respectively.
Craig Fletcher struck twice for Parkgate whilst Nicky Matthews also netted two for Thackley.
Barton Town Old Boys moved into the Third Round with a 4-2 win over visitors Retford United and they are joined by Maltby Main who beat Winterton Rangers, 2-1, with two goals in as many second half minutes from Brian Cusworth and Mark Stuart.
In Division One, Ashley Flynn struck four times as AFC Emley beat managerless visitors Selby Town, 7-0, and they end the midweek matches in fifth spot.
Albion Sports are just above them after their 2-1 win at home to Eccleshill United, coming from behind with goals from Charlie Flaherty and Alex Cusack to get all three points.
Bottesford Town were 3-0 victors at Rossington Main whilst Teversal went down to a late goal in their 1-0 defeat at home to Pontefract Collieries who have moved up into third.
And, Heanor Town are the only Baris NCEL side left in the Derbyshire Senior Cup after their 5-1 home victory over Clay Cross Town, James Rushby getting a hat-trick for the Lions.
Long Eaton United bowed out 1-0 in extra-time at home to Holbrook Sports whilst Shirebrook Town fell to former NCEL team Borrowash Victoria, 2-0, at Langwith Road.
