Harvey Sacked As Long Eaton Boss
16th November, 2009
Long Eaton United have parted company with their manager, Mark Harvey.
It comes after the club bowed out of the FA Vase at the weekend but chairman Jim Fairley cited the team's league position as the reason behind the decision.
They are twelfth in the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division, seventeen points behind leaders Scarborough Athletic.
Fairley told the Derbyshire Evening Telegraph: "Our league position is not what we envisaged at this stage of the season, so we decided to make a change.
"I thought Saturday's game was one we could have won but that one defeat did not have a bearing on the decision.
"Every club gets injuries over the course of a season and it is the manager's job to replace injured players.
"I wouldn't dream of having a go at Mark, though. Last season was fantastic and I like the guy immensely but, as I said, our current league position is not where we want to be."
Mark Harvey, also speaking to the Derbyshire Evening Telegraph, said: "I had a phone call on Sunday telling me that the club felt it was time for a change.
"To be honest, it came as quite a shock and I'm absolutely devastated about it.
"Personally, I feel it is a very harsh decision.
"But there is nothing I can do about it and I have to take it on the chin."
