Boss Calls for More Vocal Support
17th September, 2009
Rainworth Miners Welfare manager Rudy Funk has called on the club?s fans to increase their vocal support and lift the side through the coming FA Cup and FA Vase matches.
The Wrens boss went on record this week to thank the increasing number of supporters for their backing, and said: "When they get behind us they do lift the side, so we would like to hear more from them.
"The vocal support that Holbrook had in Saturday's FA Cup tie was wonderful to hear and it lifted their players, and it would be great to hear similar from our own followers.
"We have a good and growing fan base, and some clubs in the UniBond League aren't matching the numbers we are getting, so I would like to thank them for their continuing support, and if we can hear more sound from them that would be a bonus."
Reflecting on the 2-1 win over the Brookies and looking forward to Saturday week's second qualifying round tie at Southern League Midland Division Bedworth United, Funk added: "I thoroughly enjoyed the tie, it was a super encounter.
"Holbrook were very strong and I could see why they knocked out UniBond opposition in the previous round. They came with their game plan and stuck to it, and made life hard for us, but we were that little bit stronger in areas where it mattered."
The manager missed Tuesday night's President's Cup tie against Arnold to run the rule over the next opponents in their replay against Causeway United.
He continued: "It will be a tough tie but it doesn't faze us. We've been down the road of player higher league opposition before, and our players will enjoy the excellent pitch and fantastic set up at The Oval. They will be going from good to good and so will feel at home.
"We will give Bedworth the respect that they deserve, and who knows? Maybe we can spring a surprise there."
