Funk Supports Seadogs U-Turn
3rd September, 2009
Rainworth Miners Welfare boss Rudy Funk has supported Scarborough Athletic's decision to bring back Scott Phillips - even though the midfielder scored twice against his Wrens side.
Phillips ensured a 2-0 win for the Seadogs on Bank Holiday Monday.
Hehad been sacked by the club for his over the top reaction to being substituted during an FA Cup tie against Guisborough, but apologised and was allowed to return.
Funk said: "I admire Scott Phillips, he's a magnificent player and, if it had happened at our club I would probably have forgiven him even quicker than they did after his apology.
"When you have a player of that quality sometimes you have to accept the bit of baggage that he brings."
Reflecting on the defeat at Queensgate, the Wrens boss added: "I can't argue - we lost to a penalty and a wonderful header, and my only grouse is that some of our lads did not seem to turn up - we were a bit lethargic and let ourselves down in the final third.
"We created so much movement towards that final third and then let ourselves down, which is something we have to address.
"But a massive well done to Scarborough, they look to have put their early blip behind them."
