Norbury Departs From Athletic
11th June, 2010
Team Manager Mick Norbury has left Worsbrough Bridge to take up a management position at Harrogate Railway in the Evo-Stik League.
A club spokesman told the NCEL website: "Mick goes with the best wishes of all at Worsbrough.
"We understand that Mick could not afford to turn down the chance to move back up to the Evo-Stik League where he had previously worked with Goole.
"We thank him for what he did for us by stepping in at short notice to try to help us through a crisis in the middle of the season."
Worsbrough have moved quickly to appoint a new management duo.
They will be Ian Shirt, who worked with Mick Norbury last season, and Chris Hilton who came to the club as player-coach towards the end of the season.
Ian has been with the Club for a number of years firstly as a player and then he managed a successful U19s team for a couple of seasons before moving up to Reserves and then latterly with the First Team alongside Mick.
Ian has a wealth of knowledge of local youngsters through his continued involvement in U18's soccer and has already brought several youngsters through to First Team contention.
Chris has decided to accept the Club's offer to move into management, despite numerous offers to extend his playing career, which has already included long and successful spells at Sheffield FC and Frickley Athletic where he was captain.
He has just completed a Testimonial at Frickley, awarded for his sterling service to them over the years.
Chris brings with him an extensive knowledge of Non-League and, like Mick, has many contacts at all levels of the game.
After an indifferent season last year the new management team are looking to make an early start to pre-season and are hoping to bring some important signings for the new campaign.
