Charity Benefits From Staveley Race
31st December, 2009
A local charity will be getting ?250 after Staveley Miners Welfare sponsored a horse race at Southwell this week.
The Inkersall Road side have confirmed that the winner of the Staveley MWFC Handicap Stakes was number 12, named Hint Of Honey, which was a number allocated to the RSPCA in Chesterfield and the charity will now receive a cheque.
The runners had been split into five sections, with each section having two or three horses, and then being allocated to a selected charity.
The outside winner at 40/1 produced the shock of the day with one lucky club member converting his ?10 bet into a ?410 winning pot - much to the dismay of others who attended the day.
The club and its main sponsor Baris Group Ltd will continue to assist local charities wherever possible and are planning future fund raising activities.
