Worsbrough Manager Search Begins
11th October, 2009
Following a run of poor results at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, their manager has decided to step down.
Darrell Bowman has said that he felt he had taken this group of players as far as he could.
He stated that they were a very good group of players but that he was finding motivation for both the players and himself more and more difficult as games go by.
He added that the recent run of results has affected his home life and was beginning to affect his health and that he felt that he needed a break to try and recharge his batteries and recover his enthusiasm for the game.
He did not rule out returning to the club, and football in general, in the not too distant future.
Darrell has been in sole charge of Athletic since 2004 after a spell in working alongside Alan Billingham.
The Club accepted his decision with regret, saying: "We sincerely hope that, after a period of recuperation, he will come back to Worsbrough in some capacity - maybe without the pressure of the first team.
"Darrell has worked tirelessly, and very often thanklessly, all of the time that he has been in charge, working on a shoestring budget and he has successfully introduced some good players to the Worsbrough Bridge set up.
"During his time, the team has had good performances and bad ones and this inconsistency has always been the biggest issue that Darrell has had to wrestle with for all the time he has been manager.
"Worsbrough Bridge have the highest regard for Darrell both as a Manager and as a person and we wish him and his family all the best for the future - and we hope to see him back helping at Park Road sooner rather than later."
In the interim the second team manager, Ian Shirt, will take over the first team duties until a replacement is found.
The club are therefore looking for a manager for the first team.
