NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #70
5th May, 2010
Dinnington Town?s season ended on a high as they lifted the KoolSport NCEL League Cup title at Inkersall Road on Saturday afternoon.
They comfortably beat Armthorpe Welfare 5-2 to pick up their second trophy in four seasons in the league.
The game took a while to get going but, in the end, became a classic.
All the goals came in the second period with Michael Blythen and Grant Allott having Dinno two-up by the hour mark and Blythen's second, which came on the 73rd minute, had seemingly put the game beyond doubt.
But, Armthorpe struck back with goals from Joe Lumsden and James Walker to be just 3-2 down with eight minutes remaining.
Dinnington, however, regained control and strikes from Mat Arnault and Walker ensured the League Cup was theirs.
Winterton Rangers also got their hands on a trophy as they won the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy Final on Tuesday night.
Liam Wilkin's extra-time goal earned them a 1-0 victory over Louth Town at Glanford Park.
It was the second prize picked up by Winterton this season to add to the President's Cup that they won last month.
There was County Cup misery, however, for Bridlington Town and Hallam.
The Seasiders lost 3-2 in extra time to North Ferriby United in the East Riding Senior Cup Final whilst, in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup Final, Hallam were beaten 4-2 by Sheffield.
The final four Premier Division matches were also played with Scarborough Athletic claiming fifth place with a 5-1 victory at home to Arnold Town who complete their season in eighth.
Curtley Marren-Wyatt gave the visitors an early lead and that's how it stayed until a second half that was thoroughly dominated by the Seadogs.
Ryan Blott struck twice whilst Craig Palmer, Scott Phillips and James Webb also got on the scoresheet.
Liversedge's 3-0 victory at Lincoln Moorlands Railways ensures they finish in ninth spot, with Joel Etienne opening the scoring before two own goals made sure of the victory.
And, Long Eaton United secured a top ten spot with two wins, the first a 2-0 win at home to champions Bridlington Town with goals from Martin Bowles and Kevin Mabon.
Then, Kyle Bryant, Shane Newton and Paolo Piliero made it a 3-0 victory at Brodsworth Welfare as the bottom side completed a full league season without a win.
