NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #68
25th April, 2010
Rainworth Miners Welfare confirmed second place in the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division with a 4-1 home win over Dinnington Town.
Massiah McDonald and Matt Draper had them two-up by the interval before Ant Lynam and Andy Jones made sure of the victory in the second period.
Mat Arnault then grabbed a consolation for the visitors deep into stoppage time.
The Wrens will now be waiting to see if champions Bridlington Town decide to move up the National League System. If not, promotion could be theirs.
It was Bridlington who confirmed Rainworth's runners-up spot by beating Armthorpe Welfare 3-1 on their own patch - the hosts finish in third.
Tom Chippendale had Bridlington ahead on twenty minutes before Liam Hardy restored parity by half-time.
Frank Belt regained the Seasiders' lead just after the hour mark and it was consolidated soon after with a third from the penalty spot by Ashley Allanson.
Thackley will finish in fourth after their last game of the season ended with a 3-2 defeat at Parkgate.
A 3-0 home victory for Winterton Rangers keeps them in fifth place, Danny Frost getting a couple against Maltby Main.
It was a record-breaking afternoon for sixth-placed Scarborough Athletic whose 13-0 win over visitors Brodsworth Welfare is the biggest victory ever in the Premier Division and equals the League record.
Brodsworth fielded a mainly youth side who produced a plucky performance and kept trying until the very end but the hosts were far too strong for them as Craig Palmer, Ryan Blott and Richard Medcalf all claimed hat-tricks.
Liam Salt also took home the match ball for Pickering Town who were 4-0 victors over Selby Town at Mill Lane to move up into seventh.
They go above an Arnold Town side who were defeated 3-0 at Hall Road Rangers, Steve Graham grabbing a brace for the hosts.
Lincoln Moorlands Railways defeated visitors, Nostell Miners Welfare, 3-1 with two goals coming from Tom Garrick whilst Liversedge won 2-1 at Long Eaton United and Shirebrook Town drew 1-1 with Hallam at Langwith Road.
Brighouse Town confirmed a top two finish in Division One with a 2-1 win at home to Rossington Main.
Lee Burgess and Daniel Davidson struck for the home side before Michael MacDonald pulled one back late on for Main.
Brighouse are top, one point ahead of Leeds Carnegie who won 4-0 at Pontefract Collieries with Matt Chilton scoring twice and Alex Smith and Chibuzor Chilaka also found the net.
Both the top two sides have now finished their campaign but will have to wait until Tuesday night to find out what their final position will be as the Division One title race goes down to the wire.
Third-placed Tadcaster Albion won 4-0 at home to Yorkshire Amateur, Mike Braithwaite with two and one each from Darren Brandon and Kevin Smith.
That means that if Taddy win their last match in midweek at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare they will be champions, Brighouse Town will finish second and Leeds Carnegie will narrowly miss out on promotion.
Any other scoreline will mean Brighouse are champions and Carnegie take second spot.
Hemsworth will be a tough opponent for the Brewers having won 7-1 at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic on Saturday, Andy Haywood with a hat-trick whilst Gary Welka struck twice.
Scott Bates' 42nd minute winner means Staveley Miners Welfare end with a 1-0 victory at Barton Town Old Boys and Teversal confirmed eleventh place with a 4-1 win at home to Askern Villa.
