NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #65
16th April, 2010
Bridlington Town could be crowned KoolSport NCEL Premier Division champions this weekend after their closest rivals slipped up in midweek.
Armthorpe Welfare were beaten 1-0 at home by a Lincoln Moorlands Railway side who secured their place out of the bottom two with that victory.
Jack McGovern scored the goal on seven minutes that could have a major impact on both ends of the table.
It means Bridlington will win the title if they do better at home to mid-table Hall Road Rangers than Armthorpe do at a third-placed Thackley who have their eyes on runners-up spot after two massive victories in midweek.
Firstly, on Tuesday, Thackley won 4-0 at home to Pickering Town with Matthew Mathers grabbing a double.
Mathers then struck a hat-trick in their 6-0 victory at Selby Town two days later to move them within six points of Armthorpe.
Also playing twice were Nostell Miners Welfare who ensured they will not finish in the bottom two either with a 2-1 win at home to Long Eaton United on Tuesday, thanks to an injury time winner from Jimmy Jagger.
They were then beaten 3-2 at Hallam on Thursday with Joe Boggild getting a hat-trick for the hosts and, in a twist of fate, his third came as the game entered its final moments.
Hallam's victory came as a relief for the Sandygate side as they were beaten 5-0 at home by Winterton Rangers 48 hours earlier, Liam Wilkinn grabbing two for the visitors.
In Division One, third-placed Leeds Carnegie kept themselves within touching distance of the top two with a 3-1 victory at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, Andy Cooper struck twice whilst Matt Chilton also found the net.
Damion Liddle and Wayne Harratt struck for Hemsworth Miners Welfare in their 2-0 victory at home to Pontefract Collieries whilst Yorkshire Amateur triumphed by the same scoreline over visitors Eccleshill United.
Barton Town Old Boys were 1-0 winners at AFC Emley, Gareth Barlow with the vital strike on 70 minutes.
It's honours even after the First Leg of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy Final.
Christopher Coy struck twice for visitors Staveley Miners Welfare but Craig Bridge and Mark Anderson also netted for the hosts, Bottesford Town, making it all the play for in the return fixture later this month.
And, Dinnington Town booked their place in the Final of the League Cup with a 2-0 win at home to Grimsby Borough, Liam Cartledge's 85th minute penalty sealing the win after Grant Allott had given Dinno a first half lead.
