Saxby Commits To Shirebrook Town
5th June, 2008
Shirebrook Town captain Gavin Saxby is one of a number of players who have agreed to stay at Langwith Road for another season.
The goalkeeper will keep the armband for their 2008/09 Premier Division campaign.
He told the club's website: "I am very honoured at being named captain of Shirebrook Town.
"I know how much this club means to the people of the town and nothing would please me more than to lead the lads out onto the pitch in the UniBond or higher.
"There is a real buzz around the club at the minute and I know how hard the management team have worked during the summer to attract the quality players needed to progress.
"I love being at this football club and can promise all the supporters I will be doing my best as captain to help us move up to the UniBond League. Here's to a successful season!"
Saxby has been joined by Lee Hunt, Martin Rowbottom, Ady Hall, Adam Yates, Phil Austin, Craig Cantrill, Adam Kimberley and Dean Short who have agreed to stay for the 2008/09 season.
These are joined by the signings of Adam Tyler - who has moved permanently from Lincoln United after a loan spell - and last season's Division One top goalscorer, Ant Lynam.
Manager Pete Shuttleworth said: "We are pleased that these players have agreed to stay and we are in a position that we are very happy with at the moment.
"There are four of last year's squad who we want to tie up when they come back for pre-season and there are three or four new players who we are still talking to.
"This should give us a good squad to compete in the different competitions."
