Boro Hand Over Ground Petition
22nd February, 2008
Nearly 450 signatures have been raised by Scarborough Athletic in support of council efforts to retain the covenant on their previous club's former ground.
The Athletic Ground has been left deserted since Scarborough FC ceased to exist last summer.
The new club, Scarborough Athletic, are currently playing at Bridlington Town's Queensgate Stadium but supporters have already voiced their desire to return to their old ground.
With the future of the former McCain Stadium up in the air, fans have put their name to a petition backing the council's efforts to keep a sporting covenant in place on the site.
Boro's communications and marketing director, James Hunter, said: "We are delighted with the response from supporters and managed to get 446 names on the petition.
"It shows how passionate people are to see the club return to the town."
