Friends In Football Helps Worsbrough
21st January, 2008
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic have been donated new equipment by Friends In Football, an initiative being run by the Sheffield & Hallamshire FA.
The campaign was launched to help local football clubs with their own ground that fell victim to last summer's floods.
Chief Executive James Hope-Gill said: "We are aware that a number of clubs suffered severe damage as a result of the bad weather.
"The flooding to some grounds has caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage, not only to the pitch, but to floodlights, changing rooms and the clubhouse.
"The County FA are able to donate some equipment to help these clubs get back on their feet and back to playing football."
Many of the area's football clubs rely on fund raising and donations to survive and recovering from the flood damage has hit them hard.
The Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA have recognised the hardship that these clubs now find themselves in and are dedicated to helping clubs recover from this awful disaster which has affected so many people throughout the region.
The damage caused to the ground at Worsbrough Bridge was substantial where the water level in places was fourteen feet deep.
Charlie Wyatt, Secretary for Worsbrough Bridge, said: "The donation by the County FA is very much appreciated it all helps us to recover some of the equipment we lost.
"We are slowly re-building the facilities but the fund raising for repairs goes on."
