All-NCEL FA Cup Clash Is Tie Of The Round
5th August, 2007
Dinnington Town have been told by the FA that the FA Cup tie with Maltby Main is to be the featured game of the Extra Preliminary Round.
Club Secretary Chris Dearns said: "The club is over the moon to get this chance in our first entry in the FA Cup against local rivals Maltby Main from the Premier Division.
"To get the chance to even play in the FA Cup is quite an achievement for the club when you consider all the hard work that has gone into the ground over the last few years to allow progress into the Northern Counties East League.
"It is also a coincidence that this is the Centenary Year for Dinnington football.
"In 1908, Dinnington Colliery played the first football on our ground, so a thank you must go to the miners for giving us this opportunity.
"The details of the event will be made clearer on Monday but we do know that the local press and TV will be at the ground and Sky Sports will be on hand to take interviews and film the game.
"The FA Cup will also be on hand under strict guard but there will be an opportunity for the local supporters to get a close look and get photos.
"We hope that this game will put both Dinnington Town and Maltby Main in the spotlight to show local football fans they don't have to pay a fortune to see a good standard of football."
The match at Dinnington's Phoenix Park ground takes place at 7.45pm on Friday 17th August, admission ?4.
