Midweek Match Review
28th February, 2008
Bottesford Town have made it to the Final of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy after a 2-1 win at Sleaford Town on Wednesday.
The United Counties League side took the lead through Paul Reece on twelve minutes.
But then, two goals from James Leech around the half-hour mark turned the game in the Birch Park side's favour.
In what was a busy midweek of knockout action, there was no joy, however, for the two other NCEL sides in their respective County Cups.
Glapwell were leading through a 62nd minute Michael Fox goal at home to UniBond outfit Belper Town.
But, two late goals from Pete Smith booked a Derbyshire Senior Cup Final place for the visitors with a 2-1 victory.
And, despite a spirited performance, Scarborough Athletic went down 2-0 to visitors York City in the Semi-Finals of the North Riding Senior Cup.
A Mark Robinson penalty on 63 minutes and an Adam Boyes strike in the final moments of the game saw the Blue Square Premier side progress.
The Semi-Final line-up for the NCEL League Cup was also completed with Barton Town Old Boys and Winterton Rangers making the last four.
Barton produced a shock as the Division One side went through with a 3-2 extra-time win at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway of the Premier Division.
Lee Geraghty had put the hosts two-up by half-time before Ryan Creane and Nick Robinson brought Moorlands back into it, forcing a further thirty minutes of play.
But, William Mail grabbed the vital third for Barton halfway through the second period of extra time.
They will now entertain Parkgate at the Euronics Ground in the semi-finals on Easter Monday.
Winterton will welcome Hallam to West Street on the same day after thrashing Selby Town 5-0 on their own patch.
Rob Northen and Andy Catton gave them a two-goal cushion by the break before Matthew Plant and then penalties from Danny Clarke and Philip Jackson completed the rout.
And, Leeds Met Carnegie progressed to the last four of the British University Championships after beating Heriot-Watt University 2-1 on Monday and then winning 3-1 at Leeds University on Wednesday.
