Midweek Match Review
8th February, 2008
Winterton Rangers' lead at the top of the NCEL Premier Division grew to eight points after the midweek action.
All five of Tuesday night's games in the top flight ? including matches involving Rangers' closests rivals, Glapwell and Liversedge ? were called off due to waterlogged pitches giving them a chance to increase the gap the following evening.
And, this they did with a 5-2 home victory over Thackley to make it a thirteen game unbeaten run for the West Street side.
Matthew Plant put them ahead after eleven minutes but Nicky Matthews levelled almost immediately.
But, from then on, it was all Winterton as Greg Archer and David Watson gave them a two-goal cushion by the break before a second-half Andy Holt brace secured the points.
Matthews pulled one back from the penalty spot for Thackley in the last seven minutes.
In the only other Premier Division game played, Lincoln Moorlands Railway stayed in the bottom three as they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Maltby Main.
Division One leaders Dinnington Town also stretched their gap at the top to eight points as they won 3-2 against visitors Barton Town Old Boys on Tuesday evening.
Mark Anderson had put Barton ahead before Ben Rosser, Grant Allott and Matt Griffin gave the hosts control.
Matty McKay pulled one back in the final moments to make it a tense finale but Dinnington managed to maintain their unbeaten record at home.
Hall Road Rangers moved up to fourth to keep themselves in the promotion race as they won 3-1 at home to bottom side Pontefract Collieries.
Matt Spencer put them ahead in the opening minute and Jamie Barnwell added a second just past the half-hour mark.
Paul Wilson grabbed the third on 61 minutes before Ponte's consolation came from Dean Foley with a quarter-of-an-hour to go.
A Ryan Damms goal six minutes from time picked up three points for Staveley Miners Welfare at Leeds Met Carnegie in a 1-0 victory as he pounced on the rebound after his penalty had been saved.
And, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic moved out of the bottom three after a 3-1 win at AFC Emley with all the goals coming in the second period.
Dean Shirt and Craig Wilkinson had put them two-up before Gavin Birmingham halved the deficit on 69 minutes.
Lee Garside made sure of the victory with Worsbrough's third six minutes later.
Gedling Town moved into the Quarter-Finals of the Notts Senior Cup as they won 2-0 at home to fellow NCEL Division One side, Teversal.
Andrew Jones opened the scoring after ten minutes before Jason Bedward completed the victory late on.
Arnold Town joined them in the last eight with a 5-1 home win over Calverton Miners Welfare but they had to wait until the last seven minutes to be sure of their victory.
Goals from Josh Thornton and Craig Mitchell had them 2-1 ahead with Barry Payne grabbing the goal for the visitors before Aaron Large grabbed the third on 83.
Thornton and Mitchell then got on the scoresheet again to complete the win.
Meanwhile, in the BUSA Premier League North, Leeds Met Carnegie were held to a goalless draw at home to Loughborough University.
