Midweek Match Review
13th September, 2007
Thackley booked their place in the Second Round Qualifying of the FA Vase with an excellent win at South Shields in midweek.
A whirlwind five minutes halfway through the second period ended the tie 2-1 in the Dennyfield outfit's favour.
Ben O'Melia put them ahead on 67 before David Graham levelled matters three minutes later and Nicky Matthews regained the lead and grabbed the winner for the Thackley with eighteen minutes remaining.
There was also knockout joy for Borrowash Victoria and Tadcaster Albion in the First Round of the League Cup.
Goals from Karl Yeoman and Tommy Leighton saw the Vics progress after Nick Jagger had put visitors AFC Emley in front.
And, a Danny Gray brace plus one from Rob Ellis saw Tadcaster win 3-1 at home to Staveley Miners Welfare whose consolation came from Paul Clements.
In the Premier Division, Nostell Miners Welfare and Winterton Rangers kept on the tail of early leaders Glapwell with excellent home victories.
Nostell are second after a 4-0 win over Mickleover Sports as Ben Gilbert had them two up by eleven minutes and a Gavin Wilson own goal and a Neil Samardizj strike claimed the three points.
And, Winterton are third after Lee Mohammed, Rob Northen and a Danny Clarke penalty saw them win 3-0 at home to Armthorpe Welfare.
Arnold Town were the only away winners in the Premier Division as they hammered hosts Lincoln Moorlands Railway in the second period of their game at Newark Road.
Chris Freestone grabbed two whilst there was a Dave Wardie own goal and an injury-time strike by Lee Sutton to end the game with a 4-0 scoreline.
Pickering Town also picked up an injury-time goal, this time to pick up a point at Shirebrook Town.
Michael MacNaughton's last-gasp effort cancelled out a 43rd-minute strike from Craig Short.
And, South Normanton Athletic went ahead through Jared Holmes at Maltby Main but couldn't hold on as the home side took the points in a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Chris Piperithis and Ashley Longstaff.
