Fundraising begins to help injured player

15th December, 2017

Toolstation NCEL Premier Division side Thackley are appealing for donations to help one of their players who suffered a bad injury last month.

Jamie Underdown has undergone the first of many operations to reconstruct one of his knees following a tackle during the second half of their league match at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare on Saturday 11th November, 2017.

His anterior cruciate and lateral cruciate ligaments were completely severed whilst his posterior cruciate ligament was badly ruptured and his kneecap was dislocated.

The priority now is restoring full movement to enable Jamie to walk again but, to achieve this, it is expected that he will require treatment for up to eighteen months and he has been told that a return to playing football ever again should be considered a bonus.

The club has set up a JustGiving page to help with the costs of Jamie's treatment and equipment to help with his mobility. Click here to go there.

Secretary Mick Lodge said on Thackley's website: "The club are committed to doing all it can to help Jamie in his recovery and therefore we would ask that anyone who is able to donate, no matter how small, please do as it will go to a very worthy cause and help one of our players on his road to recovery.

"Finally, on behalf of everyone at Thackley AFC, we wish Jamie all the best for a speedy recovery."
