Watson takes reins at Rangers

18th October, 2017

New Winterton Rangers manager Rob Watson has been speaking of his delight at being handed the role at the Toolstation NCEL Division One club.

The West Street side announced last Friday that he was taking over from Paul Grimes who had announced his intention to step down to concentrate on playing.

Watson, who had been assistant boss, told the club's website: "Id like to thank the football club for giving me the opportunity to become first team manager.

"I have been at the club a long time as player-coach and assistant, I know the club well and fully believe I am the right person to take the club on.

"I have inherited a fantastic squad of players from Paul and Im delighted he will be staying on as a player.

"I believe this squad has shown over the past two games what they are capable of and hopefully we continue to progress from now.

"The club has high ambitions that I fully support and with this squad of players and staff we believe we can achieve them."

Watson's first game in charge was Saturday's 1-0 home league win over Glasshoughton Welfare - the side's third straight win in all competitions.

His management team comprises of Mark McDonagh who has stepped up from being coach to assistant boss whilst Grimes has stayed on as a player-coach.
