Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2017/18 #78

6th May, 2018

Congratulations to Pickering Town whose 2-1 victory at Hall Road Rangers on Saturday means they take the second promotion spot in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division.

The Pikes join champions Pontefract Collieries, both of whom have been in the NCEL since its inception in 1982, in making the move up into the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League.

Paul Marshall's side needed a victory at Hall Road Rangers to pip AFC Mansfield to the coveted prize on goal difference and it was an anxious wait for everyone as the game was goalless until the 56th minute when Joe Danby put Pickering ahead.

There was then hope for Mansfield when Dane Mortimer levelled on 73 to put the Bulls back in the driving seat but the day would ultimately belong to the Pikes with Casey Stewart getting the winner eight minutes later for a 2-1 victory.

That was one of seven Premier Division games to take place as the league campaign came almost to a close with Ponte ending their title-winning campaign on 102 points with a 1-1 draw at Athersley Recreation, Jamie Williams' late equaliser for the Colls shared the spoils after Lee Garside had given the hosts a 48th minute lead.

Maltby Main made sure they finished in fifth spot as a Ross Duggan brace earned them a 2-1 win at Barton Town, Gareth Barlow with a consolation for the Swans with ten minutes remaining, and Bottesford Town will complete their season in eighth after a 3-1 home victory over bottom side Clipstone.

Dayle Hutson, Declan Bacon and Craig Bridge netted for the hosts before Michael Ball's injury-time strike for the Cobras was the final actrion on what had been a difficult but dignified campaign for the Nottinghamshire side.

Parkgate's disappointing campaign that has ended in relegation finished on a victory as they beat visitors Worksop Town 3-1 after Charlie Baird had given the away side a first-half lead.

Daniel Flynn, Brandon Bagley and Martin Brissett scored for the Steelmen who are now preparing for life at Step 6 whilst there will be inquests at Worksop after they finished their season in seventeenth spot.

There were two goals each for Thackley's Luke Robinson and Rainworth Miners Welfare's Gareth Curtis as they played out a 4-3 scoreline at the Mitton Group Stadium at Dennyfield with hosts Thackley narrow victors to move up into eighteenth place.

And, Albion Sports finish fourteenth after a 5-1 victory at Liversedge with Sedge having one more game to play at home to Thackley whilst the other match still outstanding is Barton Town's home clash with Bottesford Town.
