Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2017/18 #65

6th April, 2018

Another midweek disrupted by bad weather saw eight matches go ahead in the Toolstation NCEL with action in the League Cup, Premier Division and Division One.

Two more sides booked their place in the Quarter Finals of the League Cup with Premier Division teams winning at home to Division One opposition on Thursday night.

James Williamson's 38th minute strike saw Bridlington Town progress at the expense of Campion whilst Handsworth Parramore defeated champions elect Knaresborough Town 4-2.

The Amber Parras had to come from two goals down to seal the win after Nicholas Black and Daniel Clayton had seemingly put the visitors in control by the 35th minute with James Ashmore and Courey Grantham making sure the score was tied by the interval.

Oscar Radford and Jordan Turner then netted in the second period to send the home side through.

In the Premier Division, Penistone Church are up to sixth after they made it five games unbeaten with a 2-2 draw at Bridlington on Tuesday, Tom Brennan and Nathan Keightley giving them a 2-0 lead before Andrew Norfolk and Jake Day made sure it was a point apiece in the final half-hour.

They go above Rainworth Miners Welfare who went down 4-1 at Hemsworth Miners Welfare on the same night, Christopher Ovington's brace added to by strikes from Richard Collier and Bradley Dockerty as the home side go above Bridlington into eight whilst Kyle Jordan got on the scoresheet for the Wrens.

Thursday night saw Liversedge jump up to eleventh as Joseph Walton netted twice in a 3-1 win at Garforth Town who drop to twelfth, Daniel Farrar with the opener for Sedge whilst Mark Simpson scored for the hosts.

In Division One, Campion kept their hopes of a late charge into the play-offs going with a 3-2 victory at the side currently holding the last of the play-off places, Glasshoughton Welfare, on Tuesday night.

Jahro Parchment and Mark Ferguson gave them a two goal cushion by the hour mark before Andrew Horbury halved the deficit, Jason Davis made it 3-1 and Adam Walsh added Welfare's second.

Second-placed Eccleshill United drew 1-1 at Winterton Rangers, Luke Harrop's early strike for the Eagles cancelled out in stoppage time by Jack Turnbull.

Eccleshill are now fifteen points behind leaders Knaresborough going into their pivotal meeting at the weekend whilst Winterton move up to seventh, a point away from the play-off zone.

And, Yorkshire Amateur's bid for an automatic promotion spot took a blow as a 51st minute Nathan Morritt goal saw them go down 1-0 at Swallownest to leave them seven points away from the top two in fourth.

Swallownest, meanwhile, now have a four point cushion in thirteenth thanks to their ninth home league win of the campaign.
