Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2017/18 #49

31st January, 2018

Swallownest are through to the Quarter-Finals of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup after a 3-1 win over Swinton Athletic in midweek.

The Toolstation NCEL Division One side, though, needed a late equaliser from Mitchell Ward-Cupitt to force extra-time and ultimately overcame their County Senior League opponents with goals from Brandon Ashmore and Jack Watts in a tie that was finally played after almost two months of postponements due to bad weather.

It was one of four matches to be played on Tuesday whilst the only game due to take place on Wednesday, a Division One match between top four sides Eccleshill United and Yorkshire Amateur, was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Hall Road Rangers and Pontefract Collieries both bowed out of their respective County Cups with Rangers beaten 3-1 against Hull City's academy side in the Quarter-Finals of the East Riding Senior Cup.

Christopher Spinks had drawn them back level before the home side took the tie with two further goals early in the second period.

The Colls went down 2-1 at home to Farsley Celtic, Eli Hey levelling for them midway through the first half before their UniBond League visitors claimed a place in the Final just after the interval.

And, in the midweek's only Premier Division encounter, four goals were shared between Thackley and Worksop Town at the Mitton Group Stadium at Dennyfield.

The away side struck twice in two minutes halfway into the opening period through Charlie Baird and Michael Trench but Mike Garrod pulled one back on 51 minutes from the penalty spot after Trench had been red carded for the Tigers.

Then, with the game deep in stoppage time, Garrod popped up to capitalise on a goalmouth scramble to guide home the equaliser that keeps Thackley in eighteenth and Worksop in eleventh.
