More New Faces at Glasshoughton
9th June, 2011
Glasshoughton Welfare have strengthened their existing management team as they look to build on their successful 2010/11 season which culminated in winning the Wilkinson Sword Trophy for the first time in the club's history.
Manager Craig Elliott has recruited ex-Pontefract Collieries manager and assistant Simon Houghton and Darren Smith as assistant manager and first team chief scout.
He said: "I have known Simon a good few years now and, even when he was manager of our closest rivals Pontefract, we talked on regular basis.
"We have always shared the same football beliefs and ideas and both he and Daz will add experience and new ideas to ensure that off the pitch, our management team is strong."
After struggling for the last few seasons, Glasshoughton are very much a team on the rise but manager Craig is keen to keep grounded, adding: "It's important that we continue to look forward.
"Winning a trophy was great last season but that's history now and it's a fresh start for everyone next season.
"That's why I was keen to strengthen the management team and ensure all aspects of football are covered from both a fitness and tactical perspective to the team spirit.
"I feel that my management team will do just that.
"The league was tight last season and I expect the same next season but, with all key players returning and one or two key signings, we will look to improve on our seventh place finish last season."
In addition, Craig's father Ged Elliott will be moving into a role of general manager.
He will deal with off-the-pitch issues, liaising with the committee and securing much needed sponsorships for the team.
Anyone interested in sponsorship options is encouraged to ring Ged on 07999 800994 or contact the club directly.
