Ponte Players Get Special Training
17th September, 2010
Pontefract Collieries' players were pleasantly surprised last night to find training being led by a Leeds United and Sheffield United legend.
Brian Deane ran the session alongside Football Development Manager Ian Burchnall, who he works closely with for Northern England Universities teams, and Manager Simon Houghton.
Deane, who scored a magnificent 195 goals in 654 first team appearances at clubs ranging from the two Yorkshire greats to Sunderland, West Ham and European giants Benfica, certainly knew the way to goal throughout his illustrious career.
His work with the Colls strike force should reap dividends as the team, currently the second-highest scorers in KoolSport NCEL Division One, seek to improve their goals to chances ratio.
The Colls players were shown several finishing drills and given useful tips on putting the ball in the back of the net.
The club would like to pass on their thanks to Brian for his surprise appearance with Houghton saying: "It was a real pleasure and a privilege to welcome Brian to Beechnut Lane. We hope to see more of him in the future."
