TV Cameras at Emley Cup Tie

26th August, 2010

AFC Emley's FA Cup Preliminary Round fixture with Northallerton Town on Sunday is set to receive television coverage.

As part of ITV's package with the FA for TV rights to the competition, games from the early stages are featured on the local news programmes.

YTV's Calendar programme, who were at Pontefract Collieries' clash with Selby Town in the previous round, has selected Emley's tie as their match of the round and will have the cameras up at the Welfare Ground to record highlights.

A camera crew were at the ground on Wednesday afternoon filming a preview piece with Graham Roys the club chairman and secretary John Whitehead which is set to go out on air on Friday evening.

The highlights will then be shown in the Monday evening sports round up.

Roys commented: "We are delighted to have been chosen to be featured and hopefully we will give a good account of ourselves and raise the profile of the club in the process.

"With the game taking place on Sunday, we are also hopeful that there will be a good crowd there to cheer the lads on."

There is much at stake for Emley as a victory could set up a visit to Wakefield FC (formerly Emley AFC) in the next round.

And, manager Darren Bland will be looking for a much improved performance than the one that saw his side on the wrong end of a 4-0 battering at Handsworth on Wednesday evening.

Exciting wide man Teo Ringrose will be missing and, after having a hernia operation, Jamie Smith could now be out for the season with his reoccurring back injury.

Bland has been busy bringing in new signings to bolster his side and gave debuts to the ex-Belper pair Lewis Pearce and James Tevendale against Handsworth.

He has also signed Craig Rouse the ex-Pontefract frontman and has been in discussions with Stephen Powell who has just been released by Huddersfield Town and has represented Wales at under-19 level.

Northallerton are currently in seventeenth place in the Northern League second division and, like Emley, are yet to register a league win this season.

They did, however, record an emphatic 4-0 victory over Esh Winning in the previous round of the competition.
