Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2020/21 #8

8th October, 2020

Winterton Rangers were the biggest winners in midweek as a 6-0 home victory over Parkgate moved them up to third in Toolstation NCEL Division One.

Their match was one of six to take place in Division One whilst there were five games in the Premier Division but the NCEL fixtures schedule was disrupted for the first time this season due to COVID-19 issues involving Albion Sports, Staveley Miners Welfare and Swallownest.

Sports' home game with Yorkshire Amateur and Staveley's trip to Grimsby Borough in the top flight were called off as a precaution whilst Swallownest's match at Skegness Town in Division One will also now be played at a later date.

In the fixtures that did go ahead, AFC Mansfield went goal crazy at Goole AFC as a 6-1 victory saw the Bulls leap to fifth in the Premier Division.

Philip Buxton's opener for Matt Chatfield's side was cancelled out by Reagan Waud for the Vikings but Ross Duggan converted an injury-time penalty to give the visitors a 2-1 advantage at the break.

And, it was Mansfield who dominated after the interval with Benjamin Algar adding a third before Duggan struck twice more to claim a hat-trick and Luke Walker completed the scoring in the final moments of the game at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds.

Maltby Main came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Handsworth, Luke Fletcher with a brace after Bailey Hobson had given the visitors a seventh minute lead, and Main climb to seventh, a place higher than Barton Town who condemned hosts Athersley Recreation to their fifth defeat in five games.

The Rec led twice through Jack Bennett strikes but Kieran Mortimer and then Scott Matthews levelled before the Swans took the points with goals in the last ten minutes from Robbie Start and Luke Anderson.

A goal from Josh Wicks on his nineteenth birthday sealed a 1-0 win for Knaresborough Town at Bottesford Town to move his side up to eleventh whilst their hosts stay next-to-bottom, yet to get off the mark.

And, Thackley netted twice in the last quarter-of-an-hour through Lewis Waddington and James Rothel to take the points at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare, winning 2-1 after Luke Danville had given the away side the lead in the 38th minute.

Emley AFC are the new leaders in Division One after Tom Claisse, Kane Reece and James Eyles all struck in the final eighteen minutes of the opening half to beat visitors Dronfield Town 3-0.

They go a point ahead of Campion and stay three points clear of Winterton who cantered to their victory over visitors Parkgate with a Josh Walker brace and a Jack Varley strike putting them 3-0 by half-time, and they doubled their tally in the second period with goals from Daniel Walker, Samuel Aynsley and Ryan Thompson.

North Ferriby survived a mini-comeback to take the victory at Glasshoughton Welfare, Jamie Forrester, Niall Tilsley and Leigh Hutchinson with the Villagers' goals in the opening period.

Samuel Nelson grabbed one back for Welfare on 55 minutes and it got nervy when Mark Ferguson's penalty in stoppage time pulled the hosts back to within one goal but Ferriby stood firm and took home a 3-2 win that sees them up into fourth.

Nostell Miners Welfare are sixth after they struck twice in the last ten minutes to snatch a 2-1 victory at Rossington Main, Samuel Ford and Ashley Austin with the goals following a deadlock-breaker from Jordan Buckham midway through the first half for the hosts.

Joseph Crosby and Kieran Greenaway netted either side of half-time in a 2-0 victory for Harrogate Railway Athletic at East Hull to lift Mick O'Connell's men to seventh.

And, Armthorpe Welfare climb out of the bottom three with a 4-0 win at Selby Town that sees their hosts drop into the basement.

Adam Lee opened the scoring in first half stoppage time with Harry Brown, Adam Baskerville and Luke Williams confirming the victory with goals in the second period.
