NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #7
29th August, 2010
Three KoolSport NCEL sides proved to be FA Cup giantkillers as they dispatched Evo-Stik League opposition in the Preliminary Round.
The most remarkable result came at Field Mill on Sunday where Lincoln Moorlands Railway beat their higher-ranked hosts and former NCEL outfit, Glapwell, 6-0.
Tom Garrick netted twice to set Railway on their way whilst Ben Good completed the rout with two minutes remaining.
24 hours earlier Thackley had almost equalled the feat, winning 5-0 at home to Harrogate Railway of Evo-Stick Division One North.
A Matthew Mathers first-half brace was added to in the second period by Matthew Morgan, Ross Daly and an injury time penalty from Joel Ettiene.
Tadcaster Albion were 1-0 winners at Garforth Town, courtesy of a thirteenth minute spot-kick from Tom Woollard following a handball on the line that saw the hosts reduced to ten men.
And, Hemsworth Miners Welfare will go to Bamber Bridge for a midweek replay, after holding their visitors who are two NLS steps higher than them, 0-0 at the Fitzwilliam Stadium.
Bottesford Town progressed with a 2-1 win at home to Barrow Town of the East Midlands Counties League whilst the other three of our teams who went through did so with victories over fellow NCEL sides.
Shirebrook Town won 4-1 at Barton Town Old Boys with Simon Johnson, Tim Bradley and Peter Stubley putting them three goals up before Ashley Dexter pulled one back for the hosts on 50 minutes.
Gareth Davey made sure of the win, though, with less than a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.
A William Senior hat-trick put Parkgate through 3-1 at Staveley Miners Welfare whilst Winterton Rangers were 1-0 winners at Maltby Main, Alex Yates with the decisive strike on 64 minutes.
Armthorpe Welfare, Scarborough Athletic, Bridlington Town and AFC Emley all bowed out to Northern League opposition, losing to Marske United, Chester-Le-Street Town, Shildon and Northallerton Town, respectively.
And, the Evo-Stik League managed one NCEL scalp as Ossett Albion were 4-0 winners at Selby Town.
In the Premier Division, Brighouse Town moved up to fourth with a 2-1 victory at Farsley AFC.
Nicky Boshell and Nathan Cartman made it three well-earned points for Brighouse whilst Dave Stead got a late consolation for the hosts who stay third.
Dinnington Town won by the same scoreline at bottom-placed Liversedge to climb into sixth spot, Liam Cartledge and Steve Brammer scoring in the opening period before John Penn pulled one back just before the hour mark.
Nostell Miners Welfare's 4-0 home win over Pickering Town means they move up into seventh, courtesy of an Ernest Boafo double after Wayne Ball and Neil Beardsmore had put them two-up.
Just behind them are Long Eaton United who, thanks to Aiden Brady's two goals around Lee Mellon's strike, won 3-0 at local rivals Arnold Town.
Phil Reynolds got the only goal of the game after 27 minutes for Hallam as they won at Hall Road Rangers.
Eccleshill United are the new leaders of Division One after a 4-0 home win over Appleby Frodingham, Lee Hill and Joe Spivak struck twice each to make it a comfortable afternoon for the Eagles.
Joining them on twelve points are Louth Town who were 2-0 victors at Brodsworth Welfare, Sam Smith and Danny Stevens preserving the NCEL newcomers' hundred percent record.
Pontefract Collieries climb to third following their 2-1 win at Yorkshire Amateur, Carl Fothergill and Craig Stephens putting them in command after just 35 minutes.
The Ammers pulled one back before the interval through Jamie Hainsworth but there were no more goals and Ponte came away with all three points.
Askern Villa and Grimsby Borough shared a 1-1 scoreline, Matthew Lepianka cancelling out the visitors' early opener from Lee Stephenson.
And, Teversal almost completed the comeback of the day after finding themselves three goals down at home to Rossington Main by the hour mark.
Lewis Hilton, William McGhie and Andrew Culshaw had given the visitors what seemed a comfortable lead before Greg Tobin and Kyle Gee-Pemberton clawed the deficit back to one goal with twenty minutes remaining.
But, the home side could not find a third as Main picked up their first points of the season.
