NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #3
16th August, 2010
Eleven KoolSport NCEL sides booked their place in the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup with victories at the weekend.
Seven of those found success on their travels with Winterton Rangers being top scorers as they came from two goals down to win 4-2 at Greenwood Meadows.
They were hit by a double whammy in the opening ten minutes but Liam Wilkin then struck twice whilst Gavin Cooper and Lee Wilkinson also scored to seal their passage to the next round.
No such worries, meanwhile, for Armthorpe Welfare and Shirebrook Town who both won 3-0 away from home.
Bruno Holden, Henry Sibenge and Craig Morley made sure it was a comfortable afternoon for Armthorpe at Guisborough Town.
Shirebrook went through at the expense of NCEL rivals Rossington Main with a Simon Johnson hat-trick, two from the penalty spot.
Selby Town also dispatched a fellow NCEL side as they won 2-0 at Pontefract Collieries.
Jamal Shain opened the scoring just after the interval and Paul Ashton made sure of the victory ten minutes from time.
Parkgate won by the same margin at Ashton Athletic, William Senior and Ashley Worsfold with their goals in the opening half hour.
A Graeme Whitehead brace in the last twenty minutes saw Tadcaster Albion through in a 2-1 victory at West Allotment Celtic after Paul Buzzeo had given the hosts an early lead.
And, Graham Botham sealed a tight 1-0 victory for Scarborough Athletic at Ryton with his strike coming in the 80th minute.
All four of the NCEL's home victors won by handsome margins, the best being Staveley Miners Welfare's 5-0 win over Padiham.
They were four-up by the interval with Lee Holmes scoring twice, once from the spot, whilst Chris Coy and Danny Barlow also found the net early on.
Andrew Fox struck the fifth in second half injury time.
A double each for Craig Hogg and Ashley Allanson made it a straightforward afternoon at home for Bridlington Town with a 5-1 victory over Horden Colliery Welfare.
Hemsworth Miners Welfare were 4-1 winners against AFC Liverpool. Paul Branton, Wayne Harratt and Damion Liddle were their goalscorers.
And, Lincoln Moorlands Railway progressed thanks to a 3-1 victory over Friar Lane & Epworth, Jack Cotton and Tom Carrick before the break and Ben Good with the third on 78 minutes before the visitors got a late consolation.
There are seven replays in midweek involving nine NCEL sides.
Two all-NCEL affairs that ended level at the weekend saw Teversal draw 0-0 at home to Bottesford Town whilst Richard Medcalf equalised for Barton Town Old Boys with six minutes remaining in a 1-1 draw at Long Eaton United after Aiden Brady had given the hosts the lead.
Maltby Main's late penalty from Chris Dickman means they have home advantage in their replay after a 1-1 draw at Blackstones.
Hall Road Rangers will make the trip to Newcastle Benfield following a 2-2 draw at Dene Park, Martin Thacker with Rangers' equaliser on 80 minutes after they had gone two-down after just a quarter-of-an-hour.
Nostell Miners Welfare also needed a late leveller from Liam Coughlan to force a trip to St Helens Town after the first match finished 1-1.
Thackley drew 1-1 at Stokesley whilst Leeds Carnegie were held to a 0-0 scoreline at home by Billingham Synthonia.
Eight of our clubs, including Pontefract and Rossington, bade farewell to the world's oldest competition at the first stage.
Arnold Town were beaten 2-1 at Barrow Town whilst Brighouse Town bowed out by the same scoreline at home to Dunston UTS.
Dinnington Town, who were down to ten men for most of their match at Dunkirk after Ben Rosser was sent off, lost narrowly 4-3 at Dunkirk.
Liversedge lost 3-0 at home to Whitley Bay whilst, in the two Sunday games, Pickering Town were ousted 4-1 by visitors South Shields and Hallam also could not make home advantage pay as they were beaten 3-2 by Atherton Collieries.
One FA Cup tie was called off as Morpeth Town's pitch was waterlogged, meaning a long trip for AFC Emley now on Tuesday night.
There were four matches in Division One with Handsworth and Askern Villa becoming the early leaders as they played out a 2-2 draw at Askern's Welfare Ground.
Russell Hobson put Handsworth ahead on thirteen minutes but Tom McLaughlin restored parity just before the interval.
Tom Roebuck looked to have sealed the victory for the visitors when he netted late on but Michael Evans made sure the spoils were shared with four minutes remaining.
Yorkshire Amateur picked up their first points of the new campaign, 4-0 at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, with goals from John Cullen, Danny Forrest and Danny Freeman before the break and Dempsey Smith with the fourth on 70 minutes.
Grimsby Borough, like Worsbrough, remain pointless after two games following their 2-1 defeat at Eccleshill United.
Luke Mascall did find the net for them but it was in between goals from Scott Price and Joe Spivak for the hosts.
And, it was 1-1 between Brodsworth Welfare and Glasshoughton Welfare as Lee Parker's 65th minute equaliser for the home side came after Mark Newton had given the visitors a first half lead.
