Allanson Takes Over at Seasiders

21st June, 2013

Bridlington Town have moved quickly to find a replacement for manager Mitch Cook who stepped down yesterday.

Gary Allanson returns to take control of the team again after Cook left the role earlier this week due to personal circumstances involving work commitments.

Chairman Peter Smurthwaite said in a statement: "He will be taking over a strong squad of players that has been built up by Mitch Cook and we hope all the players will commit themselves to the club for the coming season.

"We had to move quickly to fill the position to keep the continuity that has been part of the success in recent seasons and we are very pleased Gary has agreed to take up the position."

And, talking about the outgoing boss, the Seasiders supremo added: "I would like to thank Mitch on behalf of the club for his work over the last two seasons which resulted in the team finishing second and third in the league and also for winning the ERCFA Senior Cup in 2012 at the KC Stadium.

"I have been pleased to have worked with Mitch and thank him for his honesty and integrity in carrying out the job and wish him well for the future.

"I don't think people know the commitment a manager needs even at this level of football which, although is a part time position, requires a lot of time and effort in doing the job properly. It does not just involve work on matchdays and takes up a lot of time during the rest of the week.

"Mitch has always given 100% commitment and feels that due to his circumstances could not possibly do that during the coming season and hence the reason for his decision to stand down.

"He will always be welcome at Queensgate and hopefully we will see him at some of our games in the future."
