The Telegraph and Argus is reporting that Eccleshill United are yet to decide who their new manager will be.

The Eagles were hoping to make an early managerial appointment after Ray Price's departure last month but the hot seat remains unfilled as the committee sift through the candidates.

They thought they might have reached a decision by last weekend but it turned out to be a bit more complicated than that.

Club secretary Mark Holstead said: "There were half a dozen applicants, some very experienced and others not so.

"At the end of long playing careers, certain individuals look to get into management at this level and they can often be a breath of fresh air with their enthusiasm.

"There were applicants who are better known around the non-league scene but we are in a strange situation regarding the finances of our club.

"It's common knowledge that we have had our problems on that front and the last thing we want to do is go through the motions with applicants and for them to turn us down at the last minute because of the lack of money.

"That would be a waste of everybody's time and we would end up back at square one, so we have to factor that into any discussions regarding the short-list.

"In a nutshell, we have to choose very wisely because of the package we are able to offer."

United would ideally like to bounce straight back following their relegation to KoolSport NCEL Division One.

However, they are being realistic about that aim and placing the survival of the club at the top of the agenda.
