Eagles Set Sights On Silverware

19th April, 2007

Arnold Town are hoping that history will repeat itself as they take on Eastwood Town in the final of the Notts Senior Cup later this month.

The game takes place at Meadow Lane on Thursday 26 April.

The sides met in the final back in 2005, with the Eagles coming out on top through a wonder strike from the now departed Scott Huckerby.

One of the survivors from the previous game is man of the match Lee Broster who, after a year away from Gedling Road, returned to the club in the close season.

Broster will be looking for a hat-trick of medals having won the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup last season with Sheffield FC.

The only other survivors are Andy Davies - now with over 130 games for the club under his belt and Hung Chi Huynh and Richard Saxton who were unused substitutes.

Saxton and Huynh will be looking to add to the medals they collected after helping the reserves side lift the League Cup against Heanor Town recently.

The club will again be backed by the vociferous Gedling Road Barmy Army who brightened up the semi final clash with Sutton dressed in Hawaiian Fancy Dress outfits.

The club are running a coach to the game and bookings can be made by e-mailing Mark Butler at butz@markb.fsnet.co.uk - however places are filling up very fast.

Manager Andy Muldoon is looking forward to the tie. He commented: "Beating Sutton Town 1-0 in the Senior Cup Semi Final was the highlight of the season to date.

"The fantastic support we have had from the fans this season has been quite unbelievable at this level of football.

"I also believe I have a great management team around me in Chris Freestone, Calvin Plummer and Trevor (Wally) Wells.

"I believe that with the backing of the club, we can build on the foundations laid down this season and look to challenge for honours next season.

"But first, we have a small matter of the Notts Senior Cup against Eastwood Town at Meadow Lane next Thursday."
