Sheffield Buy First Ground In 150 Years

12th March, 2007

Sheffield FC have achieved a unique landmark in its long and illustrious history after they bought their first official ground in 150 years.

Following investment from Directors, Sheffield FC have purchased the lease for their Bright Finance Stadium in a six-figure deal.

As part of the deal, the Club also take over the running of the Coach and Horses pub which is located next to the stadium on Sheffield Road, providing extra revenue for the amateur side.

Sheffield FC Chairman, Richard Tims, said: "For Sheffield FC to buy our own ground is a fantastic deal for the Club and a huge step forward in securing our long-term future.

"It is a sign from all the Directors of our commitment to Sheffield FC ? a club which has such a unique standing in the world of football.

"Purchasing the stadium and the surrounding land will give us a new lease of life.

"Club football began here and it is important for the status of Sheffield that we establish our own venue.

"This might not be a multi-million pound deal, but to a football club of our size, it is equivalent to Arsenal purchasing their new Emirates Stadium."

Sheffield FC moved to the Bright Finance Stadium in 2001 and officially opened the ground with a friendly against Manchester United.
