New Ground Name Rubber Stamped

27th September, 2006

Carlton Town officially named their new ground 'The Bill Stokeld Stadium' at a high profile dinner and dance at the Village Hotel last weekend.

Bill, who died nearly two years ago, gave over fifty years service to the club and his ashes are in the goal mouth of Carlton's new pitch.

His two daughters and son attended the dinner with their partners and each was presented with a special plaque in honour of their Father.

Special guest at the dinner was umpiring legend Dickie Bird who entertained a packed audience with tales from the world of cricket.

A raffle, superdraw and auction raised over ?1,600 towards the new dressing rooms and the clubs general finances were given a boost with over one hundred and twenty people attending the dinner.

Chairman Mick Garton compared the event with club physio Martin Jephson setting the early mood with his trade mark humour and Head Coach Tommy Brookbanks and Bill's daughter Julia also spoke from the heart to the guests.

The evening was themed 'A Prelude to the Ashes' and guests also had the chance to re-watch Keven Pietersen's magnificent 158 against Austrailia on day five of test five from last year's Ashes victory which was shown on the hotel's big screen.
