New Stand Opening A Success

8th September, 2006

The Long Eaton United Open Day on Sunday was a great success for both the club and teams in attendance.

Mrs Fairley was asked to officially open The Big Jim Stand marking fifty years of football in Long Eaton.

The stand is just one of the many improvements made to the ground over the past few years.

Next came the training demonstrations and the mini matches. These were put on by the under eights and girls/ladies team and gave the public an insight to the techniques used in training at all levels.

After the demonstrations it was a chance for the ex-players and vets to show us what they could do.

The Presidents XI, captained by Brian Webster, took on the Chairman's XI, captained by Jim Fairley Junior.

Both sides were equal in strength and managed to end the game at one all.

At just after 5pm the ladies game got underway against Ratcliffe Olympic who had agreed to play a one hour match, thirty minutes each way. Long Eaton Ladies came out on top with a 2-0 win.

After the final match, the evening continued in the clubhouse with a disco and karaoke.

The whole day was a great success for the club and all those who attended thoroughly enjoyed the day.
