Carlton Start New Era In Style

6th September, 2006

Carlton Town celebrated their first game at the all new 'Bill Stokeld Stadium' with a 4-0 victory over Shirebrook Town last night.

The club's official website called it "an outstanding performance and a comprehensive win" and said that "Bill, the former Chairman and President, would have been so proud."

Bill's daughter Julia and many of Bill's close friends attended the game and club President Roger Smith described the evening as a night he would have been so proud of.

He said: "A good crowd, a cracking free flowing performance which was as good as I have seen down here and a lovely new ground which will be further enhanced with new dressing rooms and another new stand in the coming months bringing it up to Unibond standard of which we are only division away now."

Carlton were boosted further by the signing of John Peel who had been in a contract wrangle with South Normanton for whom he had played for last season.

Head Coach Tommy Brookbanks believes that with the signing of another centre forward, he will be where he wants to be as he tackles his first season in the Northern Counties Premier Division.
