Rock Legends Join Sheffield FC

9th August, 2006

Sheffield rock legends Def Leppard have become the latest members of the world's oldest football club.

The band has given its support to Sheffield FC after being presented with a team shirt and an early club photo by chairman Richard Tims.

Def Leppard's Joe Elliott said: "The picture is amazing, Sheffield FC should be a national treasure. It is something everyone should be proud of."

Bass player Rick Savage added: "What the club is trying to achieve is great, I hope it gets the recognition it deserves. Sheffield FC is an important part of football history."

Def Leppard was joined by Sheffield Lord Mayor Jackie Drayton in becoming members of the club.

Chairman Tims met up with the Mayor and the band at Sheffield Town Hall after Def Leppard was installed as Sheffield Legends into the city's 'walk of fame'.

Tims said: "It was great to talk to these guys, they have been through what we are going through right now, trying to establish ourselves at home and worldwide.

"Def Leppard has proved spectacularly that it can be done and I want the same to happen for Sheffield FC."
