South Normanton Athletic are mourning the death of past committee member, Kevin Taylor.

He passed away on Monday following a long illness.

Peter Kane, ex-vice chairman of the Shiners, told the NCEL Website: "Kevin one was of the original committee who helped the club in various positions, including treasurer, for several years back in the 80s.

"When the club found itself in troubled times in the early 90s through lack of committee members, he and myself went back to the club to help get things back on track along with some of the lads who had been there for over 20 years.

"Kev was only 54 but had suffered through illness for the past five years and was confined mostly to his house but, every month, he made an effort to come for a pint to see how the club was progressing.

"The club has stated that their pre-season tournament it runs each year will be named after him this year.

"All the participating clubs will be playing for the 'Kev Taylor Trophy' in memory of one of South Normanton's good guys."
