Gedling Town's player-manager James Jepson has been told he cannot take to the pitch for the rest of the season.

The bad news comes after his leg buckled underneath him after just five minutes in Tuesday night's defeat at Borrowash Victoria.

A specialist has confirmed that he has damaged his cruciate ligament and he will undergo an MRI scan in seven days time to confirm the damage and will have the operation straight away.

Jepson said: "It is a big blow for me but these things happen in football and are part of the game.

"My phone hasn't stopped ringing with fans and friends ringing me up to give me support.

"I will now concentrate on managing and look forward to making my comeback as quick as possible."

Jepson also revealed two new signings, Jon Fountain and Craig Anderson.

Craig is a player who has been round the semi-professional leagues for some time and has a good background with Notts County, Leek Town and Hucknall Town.

Jepson said: "He has a great attitude and will help some of the younger members of the side."

Jon Fountain is another player with a good background having played at Grimsby Town, Wollaton FC, Rolls Royce Celtic & Gedling Town once before.

He will act as cover for first team keeper, Danny Welsh.

Jepson revealed: "That suits both parties as Jon is committed to his rock band, Jonny Fountain and the Pass Backs, and has agreed be understudy to Dan."

Also, Curtis Shaw has been released and is due to sign for Arnold Town.
