Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2013/14 #62
28th March, 2014
Brighouse Town kept their title challenge going with a win in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division in midweek.
Their 3-1 victory at Glasshoughton Welfare means they are eight points behind leaders Tadcaster Albion with four games in hand and it was a win that was never in doubt after they went two goals up in the opening 22 minutes, firstly through Danny Nadiole and then from a penalty Ryan Hall penalty.
Del Pollock pulled one back on the hour for Welfare but Nadiole got his second and his team's third to make sure of the three points with nine minutes remaining.
Worksop Parramore are fifth after their 3-0 victory at Thackley on Thursday, Luke Fletcher, Sam Smith and Craig Fletcher with the goals that eased the pain a little from their 3-1 defeat at Frickley Athletic in their Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup Semi-Final two days earlier.
Thackley had also played on Tuesday, going down 2-1 at home to Albion Sports, Asif Hussan's penalty and a Liam Ormsby strike in two first half minutes putting the Lions in control before a late consolation for the hosts by Mike Garrod.
Sports are sixth, ahead of Athersley Recreation who won 2-1 at Armthorpe Welfare, courtesy of a Joe Thornton brace.
The most entertaining game came at Inkersall Road where Staveley Miners Welfare and Bridlington Town shared six goals with only one of them coming in the first half, Joe Flint giving the home side a 29th minute lead.
Bridlington drew level through Craig Hogg just after the hour mark but Staveley quickly regained the advantage through Matthew Thorpe only for Rikki Paylor to restore parity once again on 71.
Flint got his second with three minutes remaining to seemingly give the hosts the points but, for the second game running, the Seasiders scored in injury time to claim a 3-3 draw, this time with a goal from Ashley Allanson.
Long Eaton United were 4-0 victors at Liversedge whilst there were 1-1 draws for Heanor Town at home to Maltby Main and for Parkgate at Retford United.
In Division One, Shaw Lane Aquaforce missed out on a chance to go top of the table as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, Ashley Flynn giving them a 20th minute lead but Lee Garside equalised in first-half stoppage time and Adam Podmore struck the winner midway through the second period.
Aquaforce remain in third, three points behind Cleethorpes Town with a game to play, but the title chase has now swung slightly in Bottesford Town's favour who are second.
At the other end of the table, Louth Town were beaten 5-0 at Eccleshill United with doubles each from Connor Shefte and Marcus Edwards helping the Eagles to a comfortable win.
It was a double success for Eccleshill who became the third side to reach the League Cup Semi-Finals with Daniel Holowaty's 80th minute strike earning them a 1-0 win at Nostell Miners Welfare on Monday.
Meanwhile, Louth will be confirmed a bottom two place in Division One on Saturday should they lose at Grimsby Borough and Hallam win at Yorkshire Amateur whilst basement side Appleby Frodingham will also certainly finish in the relegation zone should results not go their way.
Knaresborough Town are seventh after their 5-1 victory at Yorkshire Amateur whilst Dronfield Town were 6-2 home winners over Selby Town.
A late Aaron Moxam penalty gave fifth-placed Shirebrook Town a 1-1 draw at Grimsby Borough whilst Julian Lawrence's injury-time strike for Hallam saw them pick up a point with the same scoreline at home to Pontefract Collieries.
