Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2013/14 #59
16th March, 2014
A last-gasp strike from Carl Stewart extended Tadcaster Albion's lead at the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division to four points on Saturday.
It was the only goal in the Brewers' visit to Long Eaton United whilst second placed Barton Town Old Boys, who have two games in hand, were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Parkgate.
Third-placed Brighouse Town were 2-0 winners at Maltby Main with Ernest Boafo getting an opening-half brace starting with a fifth minute penalty and it means his side stay ten points behind Tadcaster but with six games in hand.
Basford United are the final side to still be realistically in with a shout of the title in fourth spot after Greg Simmons' 44th minute goal earned them a single goal victory at home to Worksop Parramore but they may just be beginning to run out of matches as they are thirteen points behind with seven matches to play.
Pickering Town are up into fifth spot as Robert Hawkes, Tony Hackworth and Sam Calvert all struck in the last eleven minutes of the first half in their 3-1 victory at Liversedge.
Chris Shaw and Kieran Debrouwer's penalty in the final quarter-of-an-hour saw Heanor Town come from behind to win 2-1 at Glasshoughton Welfare and they are now sixth.
It was a similar story for Bridlington Town as they move up into seventh as Tom Fleming and Jamie Reeson netted for the Seasiders after Tom Davey had given visitors Thackley a 65th minute lead.
And, following the trend were Athersley Recreation as they fell behind to Declan Marshall's 36th minute opener at home to Winterton Rangers but Daniel Joynes and Joe Thornton turned the game around in the second half for a 2-1 victory which sees them up into eighth.
Winterton have now dropped into the relegation zone after Nostell Miners Welfare's 1-0 victory at home to stranded basement side Lincoln Moorlands Railway, courtesy of a 68th minute Ferdinand Annor goal, moved them out of the bottom two.
Staveley Miners Welfare drew 1-1 at home to Armthorpe Welfare in the division's remaining fixture.
Division One leaders Bottesford Town saw their advantage cut to two points as they were beaten 3-0 at Eccleshill United, Aaron Sanchez's early opener added to by a Marcus Edwards brace.
The two teams chasing them took full advantage with Cleethorpes Town winning 1-0 at Yorkshire Amateur and third-placed Shaw Lane Aquaforce winning 2-1 at home to Shirebrook Town to move to within five points of the top with two games in hand.
Danny Frost and Shane Kelsey put Aquaforce in control in the opening eighteen minutes and, although Shirebrook pulled one back quickly through Jason Bradley, the home side made sure of the victory which virtually puts their visitors out of the promotion race.
Shirebrook drop to sixth spot in the only movement in the Division One table after Saturday's matches, overtaken by Pontefract Collieries who picked up a point in a 3-3 draw at Selby Town.
Clipstone stay fourth but their hunt for a top two finish is also almost over as they went down 3-1 at home to Knaresborough Town, Keiron Watson giving Clippo the lead on 21 minutes but a Colin Heath brace, sandwiching a Dominic Wilson strike in the second period, saw the visitors take the points.
Games are now beginning to run out for the bottom two as Appleby Frodingham and Louth Town fell to defeats.
App-Frod were beaten 6-1 at home by Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, Lee Garside and Chris White netting twice each for the away side, whilst Louth lost 5-3 at Teversal despite a late comeback which saw them score all their goals in the last ten minutes.
Both sides are nine points away from Hallam who were beaten 2-1 at home by Hall Road Rangers, courtesy of an injury-time winner and a second for Ben Kinsley, with Louth having seven games to play and App-Frod having six matches left.
In the day's other matches, AFC Emley won 1-0 at home to Dronfield Town whilst Rossington Main beat visitors Hemsworth Miners Welfare, 2-0, and Dinnington Town were 3-2 victors at Grimsby Borough.
