Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2013/14 #58
14th March, 2014
Barton Town Old Boys were denied the chance of moving to the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division after two injury-time goals from Worksop Parramore saw them draw at the Windsor Foodservice Stadium in midweek.
The match was scoreless until Tim Taylor made the breakthrough on 69 minutes and, when Gareth Barlow doubled Barton's advantage soon after, it looked as though the Swans would go above Tadcaster Albion at the summit but Luke Fletcher and Scott Bates struck at the death to make sure the spoils were shared.
Fourth-placed Basford United took the lead at Garforth Town through Sam Craven towards the end of the first period but Sinmi Oyebanji levelled on 79 minutes in a 1-1 draw.
Karl Hall and Jaskaran Basi netted for Albion Sports in their 2-0 victory at Staveley Miners Welfare and they climb up from eleventh to fifth spot with two points separating eight sides in that increasingly congested part of the table.
The Lions go above Pickering Town who were beaten 2-1 at home by Bridlington Town with the Seasiders taking the win with a Tom Lee strike in the 89th minute.
Parkgate moved out of the bottom four as a Scott Whittington brace earned them a 2-0 victory over next-to-bottom visitors Nostell Miners Welfare.
Cleethorpes Town returned to the top two in Division One after their 2-1 home win against fellow promotion contenders Shirebrook Town, Marc Cooper's injury-time winner taking the points after Shirebrook's Jason Bradley had cancelled out a Johnathan Oglesby opener.
Pontetract Collieries also lost ground in the promotion chase as they went down 3-2 at Hall Road Rangers, Ben Kinsley's double helping the hosts to a win that keeps the twelfth.
Eccleshill United are up to seventh despite dropping two points on their travels in injury time, Ash Rawson's equaliser for Dronfield Town making sure the match ended at 2-2.
Goals for Luke Fanthorpe, Kyle Bensley, George Newby and Renzie Lobendhan earned a 4-0 win for Grimsby Borough at basement outfit Appleby Frodingham.
Jordan Jones struck twice in the last four minutes for Teversal as they dramatically beat hosts AFC Emley, 3-2, whilst Selby Town won by the same margin at home to Dinnington Town, Knaresborough Town won 2-0 at Hallam and it was a 2-2 draw between Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
The line-up for the Fourth Round of the League Cup was completed with three more teams booking their places in the last eight.
Long Eaton United won a hard-fought tie at Brighouse Town, prevailing 10-9 on penalties after the game had finished 2-2 after extra-time, and they next go to Pickering.
Things were easier for Heanor Town and Retford United who will now meet in the Semi-Finals, NCEL top scorer Kieran Debrouwer netting twice in Heanor's 4-1 home win over Thackley whilst Retford went through at the expense of hosts Winterton Rangers with a 4-0 victory.
And, Athersley Recreation have a night out at Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough ground to look forward to as they went through to the Final of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup with a 4-0 home win over Oughtibridge, Daniel Joynes' brace added to with goals from Joe Thornon and Jack Briscoe.
The Penguins will face either fellow NCEL side Worksop Parramore or Frickley Athletic for the trophy.
