Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2013/14 #54
27th February, 2014
Four more sides have made it through to the Fourth Round of the Toolstation NCEL League Cup after victories in midweek.
Knaresborough Town and Eccleshill United proved to be giantkillers as the two Division One sides both prevailed over Premier Division opposition.
Knaresborough were 2-0 victors at Garforth Town with Steve Palfrey's fourth minute strike added to by a Dave Thomas penalty midway through the second period.
And, Marcus Edwards' goal towards the end of the first half proved to be the settler as Eccleshill won 2-1 at home to league leaders Tadcaster Albion after Adam McCabe's opener for the Eagles had been cancelled out by Carl Stewart.
In the other two games played, Premier Division sides beat their Division One visitors with Darren Rushton's 61st minute strike earning Nostell Miners Welfare a 2-1 victory over Selby Town whilst a Joe Danby brace helped Pickering Town to beat Dronfield Town, 4-2.
Third-placed Brighouse Town continued their Premier Division title challenge with a 4-0 home win against Parkgate, Danny Nadiole with a hat-trick after Adam Wilson had opened the scoring.
They are now eight points behind Tadcaster but have six games in hand whilst there were defeats for the other top eight sides in action, Albion Sports losing 2-0 at home to Worksop Parramore and Retford United going down 3-2 at Staveley Miners Welfare.
The Badgers trailed 2-0 at the interval, thanks to goals from Josh Scully and Matthew Thorpe, but pulled one back on 67 minutes through Craig Fisher.
Scully got his second and Staveley's third from the penalty spot ten minutes later and Jack Booth concluded the scoring for Retford in stoppage time.
Bridlington Town drew 1-1 at Long Eaton United to climb up into tenth spot.
And, in the one Division One game, third-placed Shaw Lane Aquaforce moved to within two points of the top two with a 7-2 home victory over Teversal.
Danny Barlow and Daniel Patterson had them two up after just seven minutes but Danny Pearson halved the deficit for the visitors midway through the first half.
But, it took until the 67th minute for the next goal to arrive and then it was all one-way traffic as Danny Frost, Shane Kelsey, James Burgess and Paul Haigh all netted for the hosts before Triston Burrell claimed Teversal's second and Burgess then completed the scoring in injury time.
