Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2013/14 #52
20th February, 2014
Eccleshill United are through to the Final of the West Riding County Cup after a fantastic 2-1 home win over Skrill North side Guiseley in midweek.
Charlie Flaherty and Marcus Edwards struck in the opening ten minutes for the Eagles and, although Michael Potts pulled one back for the visitors midway through the second period, Eccleshill claimed the victory that sets up a match with Harrogate Town for the trophy.
There was disappointment, however, at the Semi-Finals stage for two of our other sides in their respective County Cups as Heanor Town lost 2-0 at Ilkeston in the Derbyshire Senior Cup and Retford United were beaten 4-0 at home by Rainworth Miners Welfare in the Notts Senior Cup.
Basford United could play Rainworth in the Final of the Notts Senior Cup after their Semi-Final at Carlton Town was abandoned due to floodlight failure in extra-time with the score at 1-1.
As the match had gone past the 90 minute mark, the result stands and so there will be a replay at Greenwich Avenue next month.
Bridlington Town became the first side through to the Fourth Round of the League Cup as they won 1-0 at home to Worksop Parramore, Craig Palmer with the vital strike in the 88th minute.
In the Premier Division, Brighouse Town moved up to fourth spot as Tom Matthews and Ryan Hall struck in a 2-0 victory over visitors Maltby Main and Long Eaton United are into the top half of the table after their 3-1 home win over Albion Sports, Shaun Rickford with two of the goals for the hosts.
Matthew Thorpe's strike eight minutes from time ensured the spoils were shared for Staveley Miners Welfare in a 2-2 draw at next-to-bottom Nostell Miners Welfare.
The top two sides in Division One strengthened their grip on the promotion places with home victories, leaders Bottesford Town beating fourth-placed Pontefract Collieries, 4-1, with braces each for Danny Boulton and Terry Barwick.
They stay three points clear of Cleethorpes Town who, courtesy of a second half Lee Stevenson strike, beat Worsbrough Bridge Athletic by a single goal.
And, there were wins in friendlies for Hemsworth Miners Welfare, 5-0 at home to Hall Green United, and Barton Town Old Boys, 3-0 at Appleby Frodingham.
