Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2013/14 #48
2nd February, 2014
Title-chasing Tadcaster Albion suffered a setback on Saturday as they were beaten 8-1 at Brighouse Town on an afternoon where the Toolstation NCEL fixture schedule was once again badly affected by heavy rain.
The Brewers would have gone top with a victory but they were 6-0 down by the interval as they were blown away by their hosts on a windy day with Tom Mathews netting a hat-trick whilst Ernest Boafo, Ben Thornton and Joe Jagger also got on the scoresheet.
Danny Critchlow scored for Tadcaster on 63 minutes but normal service was resumed as Thornton and Jagger both claimed their second goals of the afternoon.
Brighouse move up to fifth spot and will consider themselves in with a chance of the title as they are eleven points off the summit but with six games in hand of leaders Barton Town Old Boys.
Third-placed Basford United moved to within five points of the top as they beat hosts Winterton Rangers, 3-0, Willis Francis, Tyeisse Nightingale and Blair Anderson with their goals in the second period.
And, Thackley stay fourth with their 4-1 victory at Maltby Main, Matthew Mathers with a brace whilst Nicky Matthews and Luke Richardson also found the net for the visitors and Shaun Mitchell got the home side's strike.
Albion Sports drop below Brighouse into sixth after they drew 1-1 at Garforth Town, Josh Cartman's late penalty giving the hosts a point after Daniel Facey had opened the scoring for Sports in first-half stoppage time.
And, Long Eaton United won 3-0 at Pickering Town to climb one place into thirteenth with second-half goals from Ben Watkiss, Gerome Palmer and Michael Armstrong.
Meanwhile, the only game to survive the wet weather in midweek was in the Premier Division, Maltby Main winning 2-1 at home to Staveley Miners Welfare on Wednesday, Lee Jordan with the winner twenty minutes from time.
Bottesford Town extended their lead at the top of Division One to four points as they won 4-0 at home to Hall Road Rangers with all the goals coming in the first period, two from Craig Bridge and one each for Danny Boulton and Martin Pembleton.
Pontefract Collieries and Eccleshill United remain in the top five after victories with the Colls winning 4-0 at Hemsworth Miners Welfare, thanks to strikes from Chris Kamara, Liam Radford, Gareth Grant and Kingsley Wetherald.
A Marcus Edwards double in the last quarter-of-an-hour saw Eccleshill come from behind to beat visitors Dinnington Town, 2-1.
Clipstone are up into sixth after their 2-1 home victory over Grimsby Borough, Mark Courtley's own goal on 73 minutes and then a Robert Paling spot-kick soon after putting them two-up before Borough's injury-time consolation was another own goal, this time from Peter Stubley.
Lee Holmes and Jordan Hatton scored in the last few minutes in Rossington Main's 2-0 win at home to basement side Louth Town whilst it was an early strike from David Cockerill that settled Teversal's match at next-to-bottom Appleby Frodingham, his fourth minute goal the only one of the match.
And, Selby Town came from two down at home to AFC Emley to claim a point, Steve Lyon's 81st minute equaliser sharing the spoils.
