Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2013/14 #45

19th January, 2014

Barton Town Old Boys made sure they stayed top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division with a 3-1 victory at Long Eaton United on Saturday.

They went behind on five minutes through an Adam Burton strike but Ryan Cooper made sure the scores were level by the interval and two goals from Gareth Barlow early in the second period claimed the win.

The Swans remain three points ahead of Tadcaster Albion who thumped struggling Lincoln Moorlands Railway, 8-1, at Newark Road.

Seven goals in the second period, with four from Carl Stewart, made it a very comfortable afternoon for the Brewers whilst Moorlands stay second bottom with a goal difference of -131.

Third placed Basford United had a free weekend but Thackley were unable to move above them as they were beaten 4-2 at Brighouse Town, Tom Matthews netting a brace for the hosts to help claim the points.

Delroy Facey, Alex Cucack and Liam Ormsby struck for Albion Sports as they won 3-1 at Winterton Rangers to climb up into sixth ahead of Retford United who were beaten 4-1 at home by Staveley Miners Welfare.

The game was level going into the last fifteen minutes at 1-1 before Matthew Thorpe put the visitors ahead and Michael Trench scored twice to take the points away from Cannon Park.

Athersley Recreation kept themselves in seventh spot as Lee Bennett's first half strike earned them a 1-0 home win over Parkgate.

Pickering Town's postponed game at bottom side Nostell Miners Welfare saw them drop four places to twelfth after victories for Worksop Parramore, Brighouse, Heanor Town and Bridlington Town.

Lee Whittington's penalty before the hour mark saw Parramore win 1-0 at home to Liversedge whilst Heanor were 3-1 victors at Garforth Town, Gary Webster getting a brace for the Lions, and Bridlington defeated visitors Glasshoughton Welfare with Craig Hogg's second proving the winner on 85 minutes.

And, there was a hat-trick for Oliver Fearon as Maltby Main defeated Armthorpe Welfare, 6-0, at Muglet Lane.

Division One leaders Shaw Lane Aquaforce saw their home clash with Grimsby Borough called off due to a waterlogged pitch but second-placed Cleethorpes Town could not take advantage as they were beaten 2-1 by visitors Knaresborough Town.

Louis Grant had put the hosts ahead on 52 minutes but Colin Heath and Dave Thomas turned the game around in the away side's favour so Cleethorpes stay behind Aquaforce on goal difference.

Third placed Bottesford Town were at home to the side just below them, Pontefract Collieries, but the game was abandoned on 70 minutes with Bottesford 3-1 up because of floodlight failure.

Eccleshill United drew 2-2 with visitors AFC Emley so they remain fifth but the Eagles needed an injury time equaliser from Taylor Diem to get a point.

Shirebrook Town are up into sixth after Aaron Pride, Ricky Hanson and Aaron Moxam claimed a 3-0 home victory over Hall Road Rangers.

Kevin Gee's side move above Clipstone who were held 3-3 at home by North Nottinghamshire rivals Teversal.

Adam Wisdom struck either side of half-time to give the hosts a two goal advantage before Sean Dickinson pulled one back for Teversal but Clipstone made it 3-1 through Jason Edwards with twenty minutes remaining.

However, the visitors showed resilience to pull the game back level with strikes from Greg Tobin and David Cockerill.

Two goals each from Steve Lyon and Daniel Gray helped Selby Town to a 5-1 win at next-to-bottom Appleby Frodingham whilst the basement side Louth Town were beaten 2-1 at Hemsworth Miners Welfare, Nicholas Guest with the winner on 83 minutes.

There were hat-tricks for Lee Holmes in Rossington Main's 4-0 home victory over Dinnington Town and for Roy Stamer as Yorkshire Amateur defeated visitors Dronfield Town, 5-2.

And, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Hallam.
