Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2013/14 #4

22nd August, 2013

Retford United top the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division table after their 3-0 win at Maltby Main in midweek.

The Badgers made it three wins out of three with a goal difference of ten, courtesy of a second-half brace from Lee Holmes before Reece Thompson concluded the scoring in stoppage time.

They are ahead of Athersley Recreation, Albion Sports and Thackley who all kept their perfect records with victories.

Two goals from Joe Thornton helped Athersley to a 4-1 home win over Long Eaton United with Kieron Scargill and Jason Bentley also finding the net for the Penguins whilst Shaun Rickford got a consolation for the visitors towards the end of the first half.

Sports were 2-0 victors over Parkgate at Throstle Nest, Karl Hall opening the scoring on thirteen minutes and Alex Cusack making sure of the three points in injury time.

And, a hat-trick from Matthew Mathers continued Thackley's fine start to the season as they beat Armthorpe Welfare, 3-2, David Buck with both of the goals for the away side.

Basford United are fifth in the table after they drew 0-0 at home to Liversedge, a point ahead of Bridlington Town who were beaten 5-2 at Garforth Town.

The Seasiders took the lead in a dramatic first half after fifteen minutes but the hosts then took the game by the scruff of the neck and were quickly 3-1 up with strikes from Stephen Simpson, Nick Black and Alex Booker.

Frank Belt pulled one back for the visitors before the interval but the Miners made sure of their first win with Andy Hawksworth netting their fourth and Simpson getting his second of the evening.

Two goals from Ben Smith helped Worksop Parramore to a 4-2 victory at Nostell Miners Welfare whilst Lincoln Moorlands Railway are bottom of the pile after they were beaten 6-1 at home by Barton Town Old Boys, Gareth Barlow and Luke Thompson each scoring twice for the visitors.

Winterton Rangers picked up their first points of the season after dispatching Staveley Miners Welfare, 2-1, at West Street.

Teversal are up to second in Division One after they beat Nottinghamshire rivals Clipstone by the same scoreline to make it three wins out of three for the Carnarvon Street side.

Oliver Wood netted both of their goals after the visitors had taken the lead through Carl Haslam.

Just behind them in third are Shirebrook Town who won 4-1 at bottom side Hall Road Rangers, Craig Getliff pouncing twice to put them in command before the break whilst Daniel Claridge and Matthew Thompson made it a comfortable night in the second period against Rangers whose goal came from Adam Foster.

Marcus Edwards and Drake Trease were both on the scoresheet twice as Eccleshill United moved up into fourth following their 5-2 victory at AFC Emley in a match where the Eagles had a blistering start and were 4-0 up by the thirteenth minute.

The spoils were shared in the other two Division One games as Worsbrough Bridge Athletic drew 3-3 at home to Hallam who snatched a point in injury time and Bottesford Town held hosts Pontefract Collieries, 1-1.

And, Tadcaster Albion bowed out of the FA Cup, beaten 3-0 at home by Bishop Auckland in their Extra Preliminary Round Replay.
